Ephedra Extract: A version of Ephedra which is not as powerful as the now banned full version of Ephedra. Not much information exists about this particular strain. It’s unknown what a safe or effective dose is. Ephedra was banned after there were reports of heart attacks and strokes.
Phenylethylamine Alkaloids: Influences the release of dopamine and serotonin to provide a sense of happiness. It’s not well absorbed by the body and according to Examine.com it’s:
“rapidly broken down into inactive components”
Since it does not properly metabolize in the body, it’s unlikely to produce any effects.
Methylsynephrine: A form of bitter orange which is a stimulant that raises blood pressure. It’s often added as a weight loss ingredient, though it has been shown to promote side effects:
Senegalia Berlandieri: Shrub that has alkaloids including amphetamine, methamphetamine, nicotine, and mescaline. I couldn’t find one study which revealed whether or not it’s safe or effective.
Amphetamine like substances has been shown to produce side effect such as:
Phenethylamine: Chemical used for its stimulant and drug like effects. It’s known to cause amphetamine like changes. Possible side effects are:
Theobromine: Extract most commonly found in chocolate. It’s used to increase blood flow and widen blood vessels. Too much can lead to Theobromine poisoning which leads to:
Methylhexanamine HCL: Stimulant energy booster made that’s most widely known as DMAA. Once healthy people have died from supplementing with this, and according to the FDA it can lead to:
“shortness of breath and tightening in the chest (as well as) heart attack”
It’s banned in the US, UK, Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, and other countries. Many sports organizations have banned this from use as well.
It’s considered a potentially dangerous additive of which its negatives outweigh nay potential positives.
5-methoxytryptamine: Hormone produced after the body processes tryptophan. The US National Library of Medicine released a study which showed it lead to:
“body shakes and limb jerks”
It’s sometimes used as an alternative to drugs since it can be found in the wild.
Yohimbine HCL: Taken from a tree bark, it’s used to promote fat burning but this effect has only been shown when fasting. It’s known to have an increased risk for causing anxiety. Potential side effects may include:
FD&C Yellow # 5 Aluminum Lake: Food coloring that in some is an extreme allergen. This can lead to:
There’s also no nutritional value to this food coloring, it’s been criticized by groups as being a potential carcinogen.
FD&C Yellow # 6 Aluminum Lake: Food coloring with levels of benzidine, a carcinogen. A study published in the National Library of Medicine declared that:
“ingestion of free benzidine raises the cancer risk”
Organizations including the Center for Science in the Public Interest have petitioned the FDA to ban this specific food coloring. It’s also shown to increase hyperactivity in children.
There’s a huge amount of stimulants added to this formula including additives such as Methylsynephrine, Synephrine, Theobromine, Caffeine, Senegalia Berlandieri, Yohimbine, and PEA. All of which have been shown to be potentially harmful on their own.
The company does not provide any evidence that taking this mixture is either safe or effective. Most studies show that some of these ingredients on their own can produce serious side effects. It’s unknown what kind of a total impact the entire formula may have.
The Price and Quality of Lipodrene
Direct sales are offered from the company for a 100 capsule bottle retailing at $69.95. The maximum is 4 capsules a day, which means the daily price, is equal to:
$69.95/25= $2.79 for one full daily serving.
There is a high amount of stimulants, potentially harmful food colorings, and no signs of a money back guarantee. It’s unknown if this brand is safe to use in the long term as well, as no proof is provided that this has been tested.
Mixing stimulants can increase the overall effects of each, and it’s unknown what kind of effect this brand may have. Examine.com mentions that Yohimbine when mixed with other stimulants needs to be taken slowly since:
“two supplements can interact negatively”
When using a mixture of stimulants it’s important to look at clinical studies, of which none exist on the ingredients featured in this blend.
The company also fails to provide any proof to suggest this brand is either useful or safe. It’s unknown what kind of a total effect this may have. They’ve claimed that using this brand is great for weight loss, and it’s supposedly Americas number 1 selling ephedra based supplement, though no evidence is provided to back up these claims.
One full dose provides 400 mg of caffeine which is advised as the daily limit for the average person. When mixing the highest recommended limit with Synephrine, Yohimbine, PEA, DMAA, and other ingredients, there’s no way to judge what kind of an impact it may have on the body.

The company has had several issues with both the FDA and FTC over the safety and weight loss claims made of their supplements:
There were reviews of the old formula of Lipodrene, but none for the new version. It’s unknown when they started making different batches, but this brand does contain many of the same ingredients except for Acacia Rigidula.
Still, it’s impossible to determine what kind of an effect this new version will have.
Previous batches were largely unsupported by customers, many of which claimed there were extreme side effects including rapid heart rate, jitters, and insomnia.
Many things need to be considered about Lipodrene:
Due to there being no proof provided by the company, and a current FTC lawsuit against their weight loss claims, it’s unknown what kind of an effect this brand may have.
No clinical studies are offered and it’s unknown what kind of total effect the stimulants may have. There are several potentially damaging ingredients that may cause severe side effects.
