Leptopril Review: Does it work?

Intro: What is it?

Leptopril is a weight loss pill made specifically for people who are at least 20 pounds overweight.  It’s meant to produce this effect through use of a formula of stimulants meant to provide energy and fat burning results.

The official websites states that both their male and female customers consider it one of the” greatest weight-loss discoveries”. They do add that this brand is not meant for everyone, it’s only intended for obese people and not those just looking to slim down only 5 or 6 pounds.  Does this formula truly have an effective weight loss effect? What kind of an effect does the mixture of stimulants have and is it safe? The answer to this and more is explained in this review of Leptopril.

Leptopril Ingredients

There’s no official ingredient listing provided by the manufactures, but 3rd party sites have provided what’s inside:

Green Coffee Bean 45% Chlorogenic Acids Trimethylxanthine Schizonepeta Tenuifolia SE Spica Rhodiola Rosea Herb L Alanine
L Valine L Methionine L Cysteine L Leucine L Isoleucine
L Glutamine Green Tea Leaf SE Forsythia Suspensa Vahl SE Fruit Coleus Forskohlii Root SE Rice Flour
Magnesium Stearate Cellulose Silicon Dioxide FD&C Blue 1 FD&C Red 40
Titanium Dioxide Gelatin

Green Coffee Bean: Unroasted coffee beans that are higher in chlorogenic acids than roasted beans. Companies claim this ingredient is good for fat loss and heart health. Though Examine.com has reported that it’s:

“weakly to moderately effective”

It’s possible it has this minor effect due to the added caffeine. Studies into its effects at reducing weight have been shown that the:

“degree of weight reduction seems quite unreliable”

This is also according to Examine.com. Its stimulant effects can cause potential side effects as well; they’re listed in the next section.

Trimethylxanthine: The chemical name for caffeine, a common stimulant that’s used to increase metabolism and fat burning.  There’s approximately 220 mg of stimulants added to this blend per serving, and this also includes caffeine. This can lead to dangerous side effects including:

  • Rapid heart rate, cardiovascular damage, and increased blood pressure.
  • Insomnia, restlessness, and difficulty relaxing.
  • Jitters, shakes, and seizure.
  • Paranoia, anxiety, and feelings of helplessness.

Though caffeine can be temporarily useful for weight loss, a tolerance builds which then leads to a lack of benefits other than sleep loss.

A study by the University of Illinois concluded with:

“the potential negative effects of excessive caffeine intake should also be considered”

Taking high amounts of caffeine in the long term can cause unwanted side effects that depend on one’s own body type.

Schizonepeta Tenuifolia: Herb found in parts of Asia, it’s used to reduce inflammation and allergic responses. It’s claimed to benefit the immune system but there’s not enough information provided to know if this is true. There are no weight loss properties in this herb that have been proven.

High doses have been shown to cause liver damage.

Forsythia Suspensa: Plant found in Asia that’s been used to treat bacterial infections. Drugs.com has studies this ingredient an concluded that:

“clinical evidence supporting its use is limited”

There’s also no evidence to show it has any weight loss effect.

Coleus Forskohlii: Herb used both as a fat burner and as a testosterone booster. It hasn’t been well researched enough and Examine.com adds:

“still being researched for its effects on testosterone and fat loss”

Still, without any solid proof it’s unknown if this ingredient is effective. The potential testosterone boost can potentially lead to unwanted side effects especially in women. This may include:

  • Increased body hair.
  • Changes in mood.
  • Aggression.

These effects can also be seen in men.

Green Tea Leaf: Antioxidant rich tea that’s used to increase metabolism and provide a source of caffeine. Though studies have shown it to be effective for weight loss, an analysis by the University of Maryland Medical Center showed that it there are competing sources of information:

“other studies showed no benefit”

The additional caffeine can also cause side effects already listed.

Leptopril Quality Of Ingredients

Many of the amino acids are considered unessential, meaning that the body already makes it in sufficient amounts on its own.

There’s also a heavy use of stimulants, which can cause unwanted side effects that include insomnia, mood swings, headaches, dehydration, rapid heart rate, and cardiovascular damage.

Furthermore, the other ingredients such as forsythia, coleus forskohlii, schizonepeta, and green coffee bean have been shown to be unreliable, and not yet proven.

It’s also concerning that the official website does not list any ingredients. This makes it impossible to know if other 3rd party retailers have the official supplements facts list. This blend of ingredients may increase energy due to its heavy use of stimulants, but there’s also a high potential risk for side effects.

The Price and Quality of Leptopril

The manufacturers sell a one-month supply for $74.99. This can be averaged out to daily price of:

$74.99/30= $2.49 per daily serving.

Much of what’s offered in this formula is ingredients the body already makes, or additives that may cause unwanted side effects. This high price isn’t justified through its use of cheap ingredients like green tea, and potentially harmful stimulants.

High Amount of Stimulants

The company never mentions exactly how much caffeine or other stimulants are added.

After researching Leptopril, there’s a clear warning listed that mentions:

“This product contains a potent xanthine mixture, about 220 mg”

This amount is added per serving, of which the company mentions you should have 2 a day. So this equals to a mixture of 440 mg of stimulants.

That’s why the label advised to start with just one capsule a day. It’s also revealed on the label that taking this may lead to:

“nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness, and occasional rapid heart beat”

They also suggest seeking medical support before considering supplementing with this product. It’s unknown exactly how much of this 440 mg daily serving of xanthines is caffeine based. It’s advised by health organizations including the Mayo Clinic to limit oneself to 400 mg of caffeine a day. Which is still the equivalent of drinking 4 cups of coffee a day. This can lead to unwanted side effects that include:

  • Muscle tremors.
  • Irritability.
  • Heart attack, stroke, and rapid blood pressure rise.
  • Stomach discomfort, vomiting, and nausea.
  • Stroke and death.

It’s especially troubling hen you read the terms and conditions page that states:

“Any dispute or claim… will be resolved by binding arbitration, rather than in court”

“any dispute resolution will be conducted… on an individual basis”

This makes it so one cannot involve oneself in a class action lawsuit, or be able to use the courts to settle any possible issues. Since the amounts of stimulants added can be potentially fatal, it’s important to have some sort of guarantee of safety.

Clinical Studies

According to the manufacturers, there was a study done on an ingredient in Leptopril which showed the following:

“produced substantial weight loss in overweight individuals”

“lost more than twice as much as subjects on the same diet program”

They never actually provide this study, nor do they even explain which of the ingredients was studied. Without being able to look at these important factors, it’s unknown if this study is biased or at all useful.

Some clinical studies are only performed on a small amount of people, or companies who have a stake in making sure it has a positive result fund them.

They do claim that this brand is effective for people looking to lose more than 20 pounds. However, once again they fail to provide any proof to show if this effect is truly possible.

Business of Leptopril

The company is Generix Laboratories; they can be reached through the following:

Phone Number: (800) 898-5153

Address: 5742 Harold Gatty Drive

Salt Lake City, Utah 84116

The company does offer a 30-day return as well, though they don’t cover shipping and handling charges.

They’ve had an issue with the National Advertising Agency, who sent a warning to the FDA to let them know the company is making unproven health benefits about their supplements.  Since Generix Laboratories refused to change any of their marketing, the FDA is now looking into the matter.

These claims include weight loss benefits that NAD says the company has not proven.

Customer Opinions of Leptopril

There are a few available reviews from online customers:

“better as a caffeine stimulant than for weight loss”

“haven’t noticed any benefit from it”

“Waste of money”

“I’ve yet to see any results”

A few people enjoyed the increase of energy that is brought on by the caffeine, but there was concern over the lack of weight loss benefits. Many felt that they didn’t see any sort of appetite suppression or metabolism increase.

Conclusion

It’s clear that after reviewing Leptopril it offers the following:

  • The company fails to provide important information about their brand: For unknown reasons the official website never lists the amount of caffeine or other stimulants, nor do they provide any proof. They claim there’s a clinical study performed on an ingredient Leptopril, but they never cite a link to help prove this claim. Without being able to look at any data it’s unknown if this clinical study is biased or even true.
  • There’s an incredibly high amount of stimulants added: A total of 440 mg of xanthines or stimulant like ingredients are found in this formula. This high amount will likely produce some sort of reaction in the body. Though long-term supplementation with stimulants is not advised, as its positive effects are often reduced to very little. There’ also the possibility for serious side effects including cardiovascular damage, high blood pressure, stroke, and even death.
  • Many customers wee not satisfied with their results: The average customer experience is negative. This is either due to side effects, or due to a lack of weight loss benefits. Some felt that the brand did nothing at all to help promote weight reduction. Although some experienced more energy, this is likely just due to the high amounts of stimulants. This effect can be replicated by simply taking in caffeine. Overall, customers had experiences with side effects and a lack of weight loss.
  • The company is currently being reviewed by the FDA for false health claims: An advertising review board saw that the manufacturers made many health claims about their supplements. This caused a formal warning to be sent out to let them know they should either add proof, or change their claims. The company failed to respond and this matter has since been taken up with the FDA. The company mentioned that their supplement could promote weight loss, but it’s unknown if this is true since no proof is provided. The same goes for Leptopril, they claim there’s clinical studied provided, but they never cite any proof.
  • Several of the ingredients have not been proven to be effective or safe: Many of the amino acids are unnecessary since the body already produces them in sufficient amounts. Also, there are 4 other ingredients, which have not been proven to be effective for weight loss. Oddly enough, some of them including schizonepeta and forsythia haven’t been studied at all for weight loss, mainly because there’s no belief that they have this effect at all. Additives like green tea leaf extract, green coffee bean, and caffeine can also cause unwanted effects. Since the company mentions that all disputes with the company can only be handled out of court, this makes it impossible to trust that the effects given are guaranteed to be safe. It’s likely they add a legal disclaimer to ensure they don’t suffer any potential lawsuits.

The manufacturers of Leptopril fail to give much information about this product. It’s heavy amount of stimulants can lead to potential side effects, of which some customers have experienced.

There’s still a current FDA investigation into the company as well. Until much more is revealed, it’s impossible to recommend this potentially harmful supplement.
