Estroven Weight Management Review: Does it work?

Intro: What is it?

Estroven Weight Management is a pill for a woman that’s meant to regulate healthy estrogen levels, while keeping weight stable. It’s also claimed to benefit those who are suffering from menopause symptoms.

One intended benefit is the safe regulation of weight via its all-natural ingredients.  Reduced hot flashes and night sweats are also some of the intended positives. The proprietary formula consists of 3 active ingredients, all meant to help produce healthy hormone function. Are all these claimed benefits actually true? Just how effective is this brand, if at all? All the information you need to know about Estroven Weight Management is featured in this review.

Estroven Weight Management Ingredients

Cissus Quadrangularis Stem and Leaf Extract Soy Isoflavones Black Cohosh Root Extract Microcrystalline Cellulose Dicalcium Phosphate
Croscarmellose Sodium Stearic Acid Silica Natural Vanilla Flavor Magnesium Stearate
Titanium Dioxide

Cissus Quadrangularis: All parts of this plant are used in traditional medicine as a cure all for obesity, high cholesterol, and much more. It’s also used to treat menopause symptoms.

Since it’s only been tested on animals and in test tubes. Web MD warns that:

“not much information about the use of Cissus… long-term safety is not known”

Examine.com also adds:

“requires a great deal more evidence”

Since information is lacking, it’s unknown what kind of an effect it may have. Possible side effects include:

  • Gas.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Insomnia.

The lack of information about this ingredients safety make it hard to know what kind of an effect it may have.

Soy Isoflavones: Extract of soy, which is used to mimic the production of estrogen.  A Mayo Clinic study was performed which showed that there:

“Current data are insufficient”

So it’s unknown if this will produce positive effects in the body. Side effects were found in some, and some studies show it can lead to infertility.

Black Cohosh Root Extract: Herb used to treat inflammation and menopause.

Examine.com adds that information on this is limited:

“placebo effect seems to play a great deal”

“does not appear very potent”

So it’s unknown if this ingredient has any benefit. No studies are available from the makers of Estroven Weight Management on the use of this ingredient.

Croscarmellose Sodium: Non-active ingredient used to transport ingredients into the intestines.  High amounts of this can lead to intestinal blockages.  A doctor named Dr. Sydney has warned against this ingredient due to its potential ability to create unhealthy gut bacteria.

Dicalcium Phosphate: Common calcium supplement added to supplements.  Many organizations including the National Library of Medicine has shown reports that it can make pre-existing conditions worse. It can also cancel out other drugs, making them less potent and potentially ineffective.

Possible side effects include:

  • Stomach pain.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting and nausea.
  • Increased urination.

Titanium Dioxide: Extract of titanium used for food coloring. A study by the Biological Trace Element Research group mentioned that this ingredient could lead to yellow nail syndrome. Which means it could cause not just yellow nails, but respiratory issues and lymphedema, which is a inflammation in the arms and legs caused by tissue swelling.

Estroven Weight Management Quality Of Ingredients

This brand is made both for reducing weight and for treating menopause symptoms, though by looking at the ingredients there are insufficient studies done to show these effects are possible.

Soy isoflavones and cissus quadrangularis are understudied and may produce side effects.

Black cohosh’s effects are often considered only a placebo, according to the most recent research. 2 of the inactive ingredients may also cause digestive issues and other side effects.

There’s no one ingredient in this formula, which show a guaranteed weight management or menopause treatment benefit.

The Price and Quality of Estroven Weight Management

Estroven Weight Management is available in many retail stores, and the company offers an online link to 6 stores including Target, Rite Aid, and many others.

One 60 capsule bottle at Rite Aid online costs $21.99, at 2 a day this equals:

$21.99/30= 73 cents per day.

The company advises to take it:

“daily use for a minimum of 60 days”

So one has to purchase 2 bottles to make sure the full claimed effects are felt. All the active ingredients have their own flaws, either by being understudied, or being unreliable. Much more information is needed and without clinical studies that show a reliable effect, it’s unknown what kind of an effect it may have.

Flawed Clinical Studies

Though no clinical studies are offered for cissus quadrangularis, there are cited sources for soy isoflavones and black cohosh.

The problem with the black cohosh study is that a company who makes a supplement featuring this ingredient performed this analysis.  This study also does not mention how much balck cohosh was used, or how many people were tested.  Without this key information it’s impossible to know if it’s actually useful in the amounts added to this brand.

Another study was provided on the safety and effectiveness of soy isoflavones. This study was done on 24 women for a 24-hour period, so it’s unknown if the positive effects felt are long lasting or safe in the long term.

This was done on:

“2,4,6,8 or 16 mg/kg body wt.”

This very specific amount was given depending on the individual body mass of each person. The formula in Estroven Weight Management is mixed in a 3 ingredient proprietary blend of unknown proportions. Not only does this make it impossible to judge whether or not this product provides a proper serving, but a one size fits all strategy for what’s used to stimulate hormones can be potentially dangerous.

This same study also showed clinical toxicity, which means that test subjects felt side effects.

The flaws in these studies are due to the soy isoflavones analysis being done only on a small amount of people for one day. The people in the study still experienced side effects.

The black cohosh study was flawed since a company who makes a brand featuring this ingredient performed it. More large-scale studies have shown that these 2 ingredients have insufficient information to suggest their use.

A lot of the positive effects can often be attributed to the placebo effect, since many felt it would produce healthy effects.  For example, a study into all the studies performed on black cohosh were reported as flawed or insufficient, as Examine.com has mentioned in their findings:

“Studies on the matter are highly mixed”

Soy isoflavones suffer from the same issues, as they are grossly understudied.  Soy has been studied but it’s unknown if these 2 ingredients perform the same kind of interaction in the body.

Business of Estroven Weight Management

The makers are i-Health, Inc; they can be reached through the following:

Phone Number: (860) 894-1200

Address: 55 Sebethe Drive

Cromwell, Connecticut 06416

Not much information exists about the manufactures, they do have a good standing on the Better Business Bureau website however.

I also couldn’t find any information about a money back guarantee. This is likely not offered, since all sales are only available through 3rd party retailers.

Customer Opinions of Estroven Weight Management

Several reviews are available online. Here’s a brief summary of the most common type of opinions people have towards this supplement:

“awful spasms, which were so severe”

“having some undesired side effects”

“Doesn’t work for me”

“symptoms worsened and I lost no weight”

Man women actually gained weight as they experienced worsened menopause symptoms.  Some even adding up to 10 pounds in just a couple weeks time.

Some people said they lost their cravings for sweets, but these same people add that all the weight los effort has to come through diet and exercise alone.

People who gained weight in this supplement mentioned how they lost a large portion of it as soon as they discontinued use.

Conclusion

After reviewing Estroven Weight Management, many things became clear about how this brand works:

  • All the ingredients have major flaws: There’s a lack of long-term studies done on cisssus quadrangularis. This makes it impossible to determine whether or not it can be safe to use with repeat use. Black cohosh has shown major side effects in certain people, and there’s currently insufficient information to determine whether or not it can produce healthy effects. Soy isoflavones is the final active ingredient, which also is understudied. It’s unknown if it can safely regulate estrogen, and it’s also not known whether or not it produces healthy results. Soy can potentially cause hormone malfunctions if not given in proper dosages. It’s also often GMO unless otherwise stated. Since the company fails to mention that their soy is made from non-genetically modified organisms, it’s like to be a GMO product. The company did add clinical studies from other groups; however, all these studies had flaws in them that made them unusable.
  • Majority of customers saw no change in weight: There was a lot of concern from women who expected to lose weight. Though the brand is marketed as a weight management tool, many failed to see any benefit. What people often experienced was actually an increase in weight, which some say was brought on by this supplement. People who experienced weight gain also mentioned that their weight averaged back to normal after they ceased supplementation. It’s unknown what could have caused this negative side effect, but it’s possible this is due to hormone changes.
  • The clinical studies cited by the company are flawed: Though the company used clinical studies to back up their claims, each of these is either unsupportive, or biased. One study showcasing the effects of soy Isoflavones were only performed on a few people, and it was done on amounts of soy Isoflavones that aren’t known in this product. Since it uses a proprietary blend, it’s unknown if one can match the same results in the clinical study cited. Another study done on black cochosh was biased since it was ran by a company who makes black cochosh supplements. More recent and unbiased studies have shown that none of the active ingredients are either proven to work, or safe to use. It’s also not revealed what kind of a total effect all these ingredients would have when mixed together. No studies are available to show what the active ingredients can do as a whole.
  • Most customer reviews were about increased side effects: Many had trouble with this product due to the symptoms. Some added how their menopause symptoms became worse, and that this went back to normal as soon as they stopped using it. There were also certain people who added that their IBS symptoms were suddenly much stronger. This might be due to the inactive ingredients since some of them can increase the risk for digestive issues. Many issues were experienced that related to increased menopause symptoms. This includes mood swings, irritability, hot flashes, and increased inflammation.
  • It’s not a weight loss product: The company mentions in their FAQ section that this brand is meant to manage weight, not to reduce it. According to them, this brand will help balance estrogen levels, which is useful for regulating weight. Still, no actual proof is provided to shoe exactly how estrogen and weight management are linked. Many customers have also added that they failed to see any change in weight, and that this product actually increased their weight. Some people who took this product added how once they stopped, they were able to lose weight.

With several customers mentioning how they experienced a lack of weight loss and an increased amount of side effects, it’s unknown what kind of a total impact this brand may have with long term use.

None of the clinical studies cited are from unbiased sources. They also don’t reveal how much of each ingredient is added, which is important since the clinical studies were done on exact portions.

Without much more information, it’s unknown why so many customers actually gained weight and had increased menopause symptoms.
